Update of Club Activities with the easing of COVID-19 Restrictions
With the introduction of new (Stage 3) COVID-19 restrictions on 26 June, the Club can resume holding events – but under various restrictions.
On the mountain biking side of the club, MTBA has received permission from the Tasmanian Government through Community, Sports & Recreation (Sport & Rec), on behalf of Tasmanian clubs, to hold all types of MTB racing. However, the requirements on distancing and hygiene control mean that it is not feasible for the club to hold Down Hill events that use shuttling in Stage 3.
Cycling Tasmania has also gained approval for road, criterium and track racing.
The Club will need to prepare and execute a COVID Safe Plan for each event. We will also need to appoint COVID Safe Officer for each event. If you can help with this important role please let us know.
Even with in principle approval from Sport & Rec, it will remain necessary to gain permission from land managers, councils and police to hold events. We are in the process of contacting key parties and will have a better understanding of what will be possible once they come back to us.
Given the complexities involved, the intention is to run a limited number of key events over the next few months, subject to approval.
Planning is underway for possible winter / spring events including:
- Gravity Enduro – late August or September
- Cyclocross – mid August – hopefully with an extra venue – with plenty of mud
Late spring and summer should be busier, with some major road and cross-country events in the early stages of planning.
- Oatlands Classic – 3 October for Seniors and Juniors
- State Criterium Championships – 7 November (Open, Masters and Juniors)
- Hell of the South Road Race – 8 November
- State Cross Country (XCO) Championships – weekend of 5/6 December – Glenorchy MTB Park.
We also hope that some non-competitive events for Juniors will be possible.
As soon as events are confirmed, they will be posted on the calendar at the club website – http://www.hobartwheelers.com.au/
